Cyclone relief for Tairāwhiti

Cyclone relief for Tairāwhiti

26 February 2023 - The Sunrise Foundation Cyclone relief

The effects of Cyclone Gabrielle have left many people devastated throughout Tairāwhiti. Some people have contacted us asking if they can donate money to a relief effort. Reports back from some organisations is that cash is most helpful as they can then purchase exactly what is needed.

If you are a business or individual who would like to support, please know that that no amount is too small. If you can’t donate at this time, please share this post with others.

The government has provided Tairāwhiti’s Mayoral Relief Fund with $1 million to assist those impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle. If you would like to contribute to this fund and support the Tairāwhiti community please follow the link. Donations can be made from within NZ or overseas.

Mātai Medical Research Institute have been working closely with Turanga Health and has established the Matai Tairāwhiti relief fund that will remain active for 30 days for those who would like to donate urgently. For further information please visit where 100 per cent of donations made to this fund will go to our community with the most need.

The Salvation Army have told us that they are hugely in need of certain supplies to help those who have lost everything.  Please click on the links below to see the lists of the items they require urgently, including food, and personal hygiene products. If you wish to donate any of these items, they can be dropped off to the Salvation Army Family Store at 389 Gladstone Road Gisborne Mon - Fri 9.30am - 4.30pm and on Sat 10am - 12.30pm.
