17 November 2023 - Sunrise Foundation Glenda web5

Through the generosity of donors our endowments are now at $7.7 million, and since 2014 we have distributed $1,338,500 million in grants to charitable causes throughout Tairāwhiti. We are incredibly grateful to all our donors and supporters – including volunteers, business and philanthropic partners – whose generosity and commitment has been instrumental in our ability to support our community.

With so many worthy causes, the job of our grants committee is an extremely difficult one. All applications are carefully considered, and we thank them for their time and expertise. In our latest annual funding round, we distributed $200,753 to local groups or organisations. As our General fund continues to grow, we look forward to supporting more deserving groups in our community in future years.

Nau mai, haere mai to our newest voluntary trustees Mike Torrie and Leslynne Jackson and a sad farewell to founding trustees John Clarke and Colin Christie. We are so appreciative of both John and Colin for their many years of dedicated service to Sunrise and our community – thank you!

We’re aware of a number of people who have amended their wills to include Sunrise over ‘Wills Month’ in September, helping to build a taonga in our community for future generations. Often people aren’t able to give as generously as they would like during their lifetime, so leaving a gift in your will is a wonderful way to fulfil your philanthropic aspirations.

And lastly, a reminder as Christmas approaches to consider our Sunrise gift certificates that can be made out for any amount, to support any of our funds. They’re a great option as a ‘Secret Santa’ gift or for someone who already has everything they need.

All the best to you and your whanau over the holiday season,

Glenda Stokes
