Annual funding round

Sunrise Foundation runs one contestable grant round per year, where we are honoured to make modest grants to charitable projects in accordance with the wishes of our donors.

The 2024 Funding is now closed. Applications for the next annual funding round will open early June 2025.

Our annual funding round includes applications for:

  • Sunrise Foundation annual funding round
  • Tindall Foundation funding for Tairāwhiti-Gisborne

Grants Distribution Process

Application

Applications for our annual funding found open early June and close mid-July each year.

Review

Applications are reviewed based on our funding criteria and the availability of donor funds allocated to your particular cause. Applicants are notified in late September each year.

Distribution

Funds are distributed to successful community organisations in late October each year.

Accountability

Organisations which receive funding are required to attend an informal round table session to share how you used your grant and other feedback.

Have a few questions?

We currently have one funding round per year. The application process opens early June and closes mid-July each year. Applicants will be notified of the outcome in late September, with funds distributed in late October.

Our Grants Committee is made up of experts in charitable giving. They review grant applications, making annual distributions in line with the stated wishes of each Fund, or based on the needs of the community for non-designated Funds. We have Distribution Guidelines which provide a robust framework for the committee to use when making grant decisions.

All positions on the Grants Committee are voluntary and report to the Board of Trustees.

Any charity or community organisation with a charitable purpose in Tairāwhiti-Gisborne (the area covered by the Gisborne District Council) can apply for a grant in our annual funding round.
