GISBORNE’S newest charity says it is in a position to issue a second round of community grants, after being overwhelmed with the generosity of Gisborne residents.
Less than two years after endowment foundation the Sunrise Foundation was launched here, executive officer Glenda Stokes said Gisborne people had now donated more than $1.1m to the endowment foundation.
“In addition, there are also $5.5m in promised funds and will bequests. We have been overwhelmed with the generosity of Gisborne people, the substantial donations and bequests that have been promised to the Sunrise Foundation have far exceeded our expectations.
We are delighted we have received over $1.1 million in donated funds within our first two years.
The Sunrise Foundation was officially launched here by Warehouse founder and philanthropist Sir Stephen Tindall in October 2014.
