A Lasting Legacy of Scholarships for Local Students

Funds from the Steve Crosby Trust have been transferred to Sunrise where scholarships will continue in his memory.

Steve Crosby was a respected Gisborne lawyer, passionate sports advocate, and dedicated community leader. Late last year, funds from a trust established in his memory in 1989 were transferred to Sunrise, where they will be managed in a way that guarantees long-term sustainability.

In consultation with Steve’s wife Kay, a group of Steve’s friends established the trust to support students from Gisborne Boys’ and Gisborne Girls’ High Schools by way of scholarship. With the transference of funds to Sunrise, the trust’s original intention will continue through the Steve Crosby Fund, with Kay assisting in the selection of the two successful scholarship recipients each year.

It’s a comfort to know that this is something that will continue helping local students for generations to come. I hope others in the community will be inspired to contribute to Steve’s fund, helping support more local students in the coming years,” says Kay.

For more than 35 years, a scholarship worth between $800 and $1000 each has been awarded to one student from each school to help with expenses they may face in their final senior year. The scholarships are awarded to each school, with funds distributed to the students as needed and appropriate

Any gifts made to the Steve Crosby Fund with Sunrise will be invested, protected and inflation proofed, with the surplus investment income distributed as a scholarship to the students, helping them with their educational needs.

Donations to this fund are invited and welcomed. As the fund grows, it will help make a difference in the lives of local students as they prepare for life beyond secondary school.
