Gisborne Gymnastics Club (GGC) received a grant in Sunrise’s annual funding round to purchase essential spotting boxes, which are benefitting a range of classes, from baby sessions to competitive, recreational, parkour training and everything in between.
Head coach and manager Nicola Ludwig expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “Funding is an ongoing challenge, so we’re thankful to funders like Sunrise who are making a real difference in our community by supporting clubs like ours.”
The grant was made possible through the Les McGreevy Named Fund, established by a bequest from the long-time Sunrise supporter. Les’s fund is untagged, meaning Sunrise’s grants committee determine each year which local groups to support.
“It’s wonderful to have a fund with untagged funds that can assist with many grant applications each year,” said Glenda Stokes, CEO of Sunrise Foundation. “We aim to support causes Les would have cared about to honour his memory.”
The perpetual nature of Sunrise is what appealed to Les, knowing his fund would go on supporting a variety of local causes year after year. Since the named fund was established in 2020, approximately $55,000 of grants have been distributed. Groups who received funding from the Les McGreevy Named Fund in our last funding round include Alzheimer’s Gisborne-Tairāwhiti, Comet Swimming Club, House of Science Tairāwhiti, Life Education Trust, Mangapapa Union Parish, Multiple Sclerosis Gisborne East Coast, and Tapuwae Tairāwhiti Trails Trust.
