Education changes lives, and through a growing number of scholarship funds, Sunrise Foundation is helping local students take the next step towards their future.
Alongside the longstanding Younited (EIT Tairāwhiti) Scholarship Fund, Sunrise also manages the Steve Crosby Fund, Charles Wilkinson Fund, Tourism Eastland Legacy Fund and the Paul Benge Fund, which will support veterinary students in the future. By bringing these funds under the Sunrise umbrella, we provide ongoing governance and administration while ensuring each scholarship remains true to its original purpose.
The Younited Scholarship supports EIT students facing hardship while studying locally. Recent recipients Angeline Caskey, Jarel Taunoa, and Maurice Wairau said they were incredibly grateful for the financial support.

Established in memory of Steve Crosby, the Steve Crosby Scholarship Fund supports one student from both Gisborne Girls’ High School and Gisborne Boys’ High School each year. This year's recipients were Jemma Saywell and Jake Higgins.
Jemma says the scholarship has helped her afford volleyball school trips during her final year at school, while Jake shares, “The scholarship will help support my future study aspirations in Psychology and Māori Studies while allowing me to continue pursuing opportunities in leadership, Te Ao Māori, and service.”

The Tourism Eastland Legacy Fund awards an annual scholarship to a local student pursuing further education in tourism while also supporting tourism initiatives across the region.
Recipient Felix Cowie says, "The scholarship has been a huge help in reducing some of the financial pressure and has helped cover study-related costs and expenses associated with university. I'm very grateful for the support, as it has allowed me to focus more on my studies and making the most of the opportunities available to me.”

The Charles Wilkinson Fund recently supported chamber group winners Forte Fingers to travel to Wellington for Regional Finals in Wellington. Pyper August, Wairere Kutia, Hinemaia Reedy and Romie Roseman shared, “Thank you so much for the very, very generous support we received for our Chamber Music competition. It was a huge weight lifted off our parents and allowed us to focus on our performance without additional stress.”
These funds do more than provide financial assistance. They remove barriers, create opportunities, and invest in the future of our region by supporting local students to pursue their goals with confidence.
