Nau mai, haere mai Whaimutu Dewes

Whaimutu Dewes has joined the Sunrise team as our latest voluntary trustee.

Whaimutu Dewes has recently joined our team as a voluntary Sunrise trustee. Whaimutu says he feels a sense of obligation to help in our local community, which must be why the Sunrise mantra of ‘local giving, for local needs’ resonates with him.

“I’ve been raised with the belief that if you have the capacity, it’s a matter of how, not when you help others. It’s about helping people that need a hand up as opposed to a handout,” says Whaimutu.

Of Ngati Porou and Ngati Rangitihi descent, Whaimutu says he is constantly reminded of the strictures of his elders to realise the aspirations of the people for generations that follow. With a background in law, and having held numerous important governance roles, we know Whaimutu will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our Board.
