Minimising stress for new and anxious drivers

Matapuna Training Centre put the grant they received from Sunrise towards purchasing two driver education simulators to support new or anxious drivers, giving clients the opportunity to improve their driving knowledge and skills in a less stressful environment.
Waitawa Papunui has been enjoying her first few sessions on the driving simulator, assisted by Gay Waititi.

Simulator administrator Gay Waititi says it sometimes take a few sessions for clients to get the hang of it, coping with progressive levels of difficulty and driving scenarios.

Learner driver Waitawa Papuni has participated in a few sessions on the simulator so far and has been loving the experience but says it’s like nothing she’s ever done before.

It's good having Gay in the room with me. She gives me tips about how I can improve and reminds me to slow my breathing down and relax,” says Waitawa.I’m so glad I signed up and wasn’t too shy to have a go. I would encourage others to for sure.”
